Showings in 2024

Filmmaker and Educator Mark Larson

Since 1977, I created works utilizing a wide variety of audio-visual materials - Super 8 and 16mm film, photographic slides, video transmissions and projections, web art and flip books. My short films recording people and places in San Jose, California have appeared at festivals throughout the United States, Europe and South Asia.

New work includes a double bill of Letter About A Mastiff by Bertolt Brecht and My Life Had Stood - A Loaded Gun by Emily Dickinson projected on walls throughout the city of San Jose, California in 2024.

For over twenty years, I have lectured on topics in film history, presenting some 500 films in every genre at Hartnell College, Santa Clara University, the Santa Clara Public Library, Stanford University and various civic groups throughout the South Bay.

The hallmark of these presentations are the spirited discussions after every motion picture. Audience members are encouraged to discover the complex meanings within each film through an informative and wide ranging moderated dialogue.

Beginning in the summer of 2013, I curated a special series of film courses including such topics as Film Noir, Asian Film, Pre-Code Hollywood and Euro Westerns for the Cupertino Public Library, a series which continued through 2025 with great enthusiasm.

A life long passion for silent film has brought me many times to La Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone, Italy. I am a member of Domitor, the International Society for the Study of Early Cinema.
